Local “Guide” Food Review
Chef Ron’s Gumbo Stop is a New Orleans Neighborhood-style restaurant that serves an array of local seafood based dishes. It is slightly out-of-the-way but easy to get to. Having had take out seafood gumbo (highly recommended), I was anxious to eat in the newly renovated and expanded shop. Reopened approximately two months after the expansion and remodel, the restaurant was clean, bright, and roomy with a cliched modern industrial theme. Wait staff were pleasant and attentive.
I ordered the Catfish Jefferson which was mildly disappointing. The fish was breaded and fried well. The cream sauce with crawfish and shrimp was a little too thick and floury. There was only enough sauce to have with the fish, so the pilaf of rice was just that. A side medley of marinated grilled vegetables was tasty, cooked with just a little crunch. Another dine-in experience is recommended since I have had good experiences before with take out.
Location, Location, Location
Chef Ron’s Gumbo Stop is located at 2309 N Causeway Boulevard in Metairie, Louisiana. Chef Ron’s is near Lakeside Shopping Center, Louisiana’s #1 international tax free shopping destination. Only 15 minutes from the French Quarter and 10 minutes from the Louis Armstrong Airport. They are open Tuesday – Saturday from 11 am – 9 pm.
