Beignets at Café du Monde
Let’s talk about one of our favorite things…food! Of course, there is no better place to indulge in all things culinary than our culturally diverse city of New Orleans. From savory to sweet we have it all! Today our focus is on the sweeter side of life, Café du Monde beignets. These delectable pillows of melt-in-your-mouth goodness are the main reason to visit this historic café. Located on Decatur Street, smack in the middle of the world-famous French Quarter, beignets at Café du Monde should be high on your bucket list.
Get Your French On
Beignets, pronounced ben-YAYs, are powdered sugar-covered french style doughnuts. They are traditionally served with Cafe Au Lait, a chicory coffee prepared with half coffee and half hot milk. The chicory gives this coffee a mild chocolate note. Cafe du Monde beignets are very popular with tourists. So to avoid the largest crowds, our insider #thesavvynative tip is to try going very late or very early as they are open 24/7. Also, if you see an open table, don’t hesitate, take a seat! Since there is no hostess it is first come, first served. Also, have your cash ready as they do not accept plastic.
